Quilt Auction Rules
Yoder’s Old-Fashioned Quilt Auctions…..
are the areas most popular events each year. The auctions are ideal outlets for quilters to sell their quilt items for a nominal fee. Auctions for 2010 will be held at the Otto Center, just south of Arthur, Illinois. Dates for the 2010 auctions are Saturday, April 24 during the 21 st Annual Arthur Quilt Show, September 11, and October 9 during the East Central Illinois Quilt Show starting at 1 p.m. Viewing of the auction quilts, April 21 – 23, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., September 10, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., October 6 – 8, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., and 10 a.m. the day of the auctions.
Each auction will have about 100 quilt items. Bed, lap, wall, and baby quilts can be
hand-quilted or machine-quilted. Antique quilts are also accepted, but are not in great demand.
Quilt tops are also accepted.
1. Quilts consist of three layers; two layers of cloth filled with “batting” material. Quilts may be embellished with materials other then cloth.
2. Quilts may be any technique and quilted by hand or machine. Unaccepted are oriental imported quilts, mass or reproduced quilts, quilts purchased from a wholesale or retail outlet, tied quilts, cheater quilts (quilt top looks like it’s pieced, but is from one piece of fabric), or preprinted quilt blocks (if used more than one-half the top). Embroidered and stamped cross stitch blocks are acceptable.
3. Quilt tops submitted for the auction need 3/4 yards of coordinating fabric or binding cut, unless it has prairie points. Binding doesn’t need to be sewn on the top.
4. Quilt items must be completed, clean, undamaged, and in excellent condition to qualify for sale. Each quilt item must have been completed after December 31, 2000 unless it’s antique.
5. The entry form may be duplicated. Each form needs to be completed and signed. A limit of five (5) quilt items may be entered in each auction. Please submit forms early even if quilts aren’t finished, but will be finished by the auction date. Space is limited and dates tend to fill up quickly.
6. When quilt items are placed on the auction list, a confirmation will be sent indicating what date quilt items are scheduled for auction. Quilts can be delivered in person or by special carrier to the Administrative Office, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Friday.
Quilt items need to be delivered before SATURDAY prior to Saturday’s auction.
Quilt items may not be hand-delivered the day of the auction!
7. There will not be a minimum amount placed on any quilt item. It’s the responsibility of the seller to increase the bid on their quilt items, if price is felt to be too low. A quilt that is purchased back by the seller has the opportunity to sell it again at the next auction. Each quilt is subjected to an auction fee of twelve (12) percent of the last bid accepted by the auctioneer.
8. Rockome Gardens, LLC and Rockome Gardens reserve the right to refuse any quilt items and remove from the roster any quilt item that is deem inappropriate, does not meet guidelines, is of poor quality construction, or may have been misrepresented on the entry form. Substitutions of the original entries are not allowed.
9. Quilters will be paid after all quilt items are paid or approximately 1 hour after the auction. Quilters can remain seated and will be called in order by travel distance, longest distance first.
